The NOAA CoastWatch Ocean Heat Content (OHC) Product Suite is now available through Icechunk, a cloud-native platform that provides analysis-ready access to NOAA's original data.
This dataset spans from 2020 to the present and covers three regions: the North Atlantic, North Pacific, and South Pacific.

Impact & Risks

The availability of this data is crucial for researchers and meteorologists studying ocean heat content and its implications for weather patterns, including hurricane development. Accurate and timely data can improve forecasting models and risk assessments. However, users must be aware of potential gaps or overlaps in the dataset, particularly around codec transitions in 2025. Additionally, some source files with corrupt data were excluded, which may slightly affect continuity in certain time series.
