• A low-pressure system moving east-northeast from South Dakota will bring showers and scattered thunderstorms to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 28,
• A warm front will lift north from southern Minnesota, while a cold front pushes east from western Minnesota. This system will be accompanied by a strengthening low-level jet from the southwest, with speeds of 30-45 knots, carrying moisture and warm air northward. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the 50s to lower 60s (10-16°C), with dew points in the 50s (10-15°C). These conditions, combined with strong wind shear and lift from the fronts, could support a few strong to severe thunderstorms, particularly in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Impact & Risks

The primary threats from these storms include hail up to quarter size (1 inch in diameter) and the potential for isolated tornadoes if sufficient instability develops. The storms are expected to impact areas in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, including the Twin Ports area, where activity is most likely between 3 PM and 9 PM. Rainfall amounts are forecasted to range from 0.15 to 0.50 inches, with localized higher totals possible. Residents in the affected areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions.
