Cyclone Arnab and Heavy Rain Threaten Kharif Crops Across India
IN · Published Oct 28, 2026
• Cyclone Arnab has caused significant concern for farmers in eastern India, with heavy rainfall and strong winds impacting Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.
• The cyclone made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on the morning of 28 October 2026 and is expected to weaken gradually.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and strong winds pose a significant risk to standing crops, particularly paddy, in Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. Harvested paddy left in the open is vulnerable to moisture damage, while waterlogging and lodging could complicate harvesting operations. In northern states like Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, rain may disrupt paddy procurement and sugarcane harvesting, delaying transportation and processing. The IMD has also identified a moderate to high risk of flash floods in 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh and parts of Yanam, with low-lying areas at risk of waterlogging.
