• Cyclone Murasu made landfall near Ongole in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday morning with maximum sustained winds of 100-110 kph (62-68 mph), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
• The cyclone, which formed over the Bay of Bengal, brought heavy rainfall to eastern India as it weakened after landfall.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and storm surge are expected to cause flooding in low-lying areas, potentially disrupting daily life in affected regions. Authorities have warned of risks to infrastructure, transportation, and agriculture. This is the second cyclone to hit Andhra Pradesh in a week, following Cyclone Arnab, which caused significant damage, including the loss of five lives and the inundation of 200,000 acres of cropland. The cumulative impact of these back-to-back cyclones could exacerbate recovery efforts in the region.
