A surge of monsoon moisture is expected to bring scattered thunderstorms to Central Oregon from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Fire Weather Zones 700 (Central Mountains of Oregon) and 705 (Southern Deschutes National Forest) due to abundant lightning and dry surface air, which could lead to fire ignitions.

Impact & Risks

The combination of abundant lightning, dry air, and gusty winds poses a significant fire hazard in Central Oregon. Any fires that ignite could spread rapidly, making outdoor burning highly dangerous. The Air Quality Advisory warns of unhealthy smoke levels, which can aggravate respiratory and heart conditions. Residents, especially those with pre-existing health issues, are advised to limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if smoke is present.
