• The National Hurricane Center has officially named Subtropical Storm Josephine, which developed from a nor'easter previously identified as Invest 93L.
• The storm is currently located a few hundred miles off the mid-Atlantic coast and has brought significant impacts to North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Impact & Risks

Subtropical Storm Josephine has already caused significant coastal flooding and damage in the Outer Banks, particularly along N.C. Highway 12 in Rodanthe, where overwash has made some sections impassable. Dare County issued a mandatory evacuation for visitors on Hatteras Island last weekend due to the flooding threat. Residents on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands were also urged to evacuate. The storm's high surf and strong winds pose ongoing risks of beach erosion, dangerous marine conditions, and further flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Travelers and residents in affected regions should remain vigilant as conditions evolve.
