• The water levels in Pune's major dams, including Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon, Temghar, and Pavana, have collectively reached 91.10% of their designed live storage capacity as of 6 October
• This equates to 10,02,050 million litres (ML) out of a total capacity of 10,99,980 ML, according to data from the Maharashtra Water Resources Department (WRD). Individual dam levels vary, with Khadakwasla at 44.50% (24,880 ML), Panshet at 93.36% (2,81,580 ML), Varasgaon at 96.41% (3,50,090 ML), Temghar at 99.54% (1,04,530 ML), and Pavana at 100% (2,40,970 ML). Year-on-year comparisons show significant reductions in Khadakwasla and slight decreases in other dams compared to the same day last year.

Impact & Risks

The reduced water levels in Khadakwasla, which are significantly lower than last year's 99.72%, may impact water availability for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad residents. While other dams like Pavana remain at full capacity, the overall drop in regional storage could lead to concerns about water supply sustainability if levels continue to decline. Agricultural activities and urban water usage in the region may face challenges if the trend persists.
