Monsoon Delayed, Rain Relief Likely Across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh
IN · Published Sep 2, 2026
The southwest monsoon's arrival in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh has been delayed by three to four days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
However, intermittent rainfall is expected across the region until 25 June 2026, influenced by western disturbances.

Impact & Risks

The delayed monsoon and rainfall deficits are affecting agricultural activities in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, where farmers rely heavily on monsoon rains for crop irrigation. While the expected rainfall may provide temporary relief, humid conditions and rising temperatures could exacerbate discomfort for residents. Thunderstorms and gusty winds pose risks to infrastructure and outdoor activities, and the ongoing El Niño conditions may further impact the monsoon's behaviour, potentially leading to weaker rainfall in the coming months.
