Tropical Storm Warning and Flood Threat Across Gulf Coast
US · Published Jun 17, 2026
A tropical storm warning has been issued from Sabine Pass, Texas, to Morgan City, Louisiana, as a system, potentially Tropical Storm Arthur, threatens the Gulf Coast with heavy rainfall and flooding.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the system, currently labeled Potential Tropical Cyclone One, is expected to bring significant rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 20 inches through Friday.

Why It's Important?

The heavy rainfall and flash flooding pose life-threatening risks, particularly in areas already saturated from earlier storms. Cities such as Houston, Lake Charles, New Orleans, Biloxi, and Mobile are at high risk of significant flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level 3 out of 4 flash flood threat for parts of the region. Flooding has already caused fatalities in Texas, with two deaths reported, and has led to numerous water rescues and road closures. Coastal flooding and strong winds may also disrupt communities along the Gulf Coast.
