Cyclone Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in West Bengal and Coastal Areas
IN · Published Oct 24, 2026
• A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by 26th October 2026, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
• This system is forecasted to move west-northwestward towards the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast.

Impact & Risks

The cyclonic storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to several districts in West Bengal, potentially disrupting daily life and causing localised flooding. Coastal areas, particularly South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur, may face heightened risks due to strong winds and heavy downpours. Fisherfolk and maritime activities are particularly vulnerable, with advisories in place to avoid sea travel. The drop in day temperatures by 2-3°C in southern West Bengal may also impact agricultural activities.
