• A low-pressure system from the north is forecast to bring cooler temperatures and widespread rain to Southern California by midweek, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
• The rain is expected to last approximately 12 hours, with most areas receiving 0.75 to 1 inch of rainfall, while foothills and coastal slopes could see up to 2 inches.

Impact & Risks

The anticipated rain is expected to be mostly beneficial, but minor flooding could occur in some areas, particularly in Los Angeles, where even moderate rainfall can lead to localised issues. Burn areas from recent wildfires, such as the Norte fire in San Clemente, may experience runoff and mudflows. Thunderstorms could bring gusty, erratic winds and lightning, posing additional risks. Cooler temperatures, especially in mountain communities, may drop 15 to 20 degrees below average, with highs in the 40s and 50s °F.
