Flash flooding is possible in areas with low flash flood guidance (FFG), particularly along the Virginia-Tennessee border where thresholds are as low as 1-1.5 inches per hour. Other areas have FFGs ranging from 1.5 to 2 inches per hour. The risk is heightened by the potential for multiple storm waves with minimal dry periods in between. Mountainous regions are especially vulnerable to rapid runoff and localized flooding.
