IN · Published Sep 17, 2026
Telangana is set to experience a prolonged spell of rain and thunderstorms from 17 to 22 September 2026, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The state, currently facing a 19% monsoon deficit, is expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30–40 km/h.

Impact & Risks

The forecasted rainfall could help reduce the monsoon deficit in Telangana, which has received 536.5 mm of rainfall against a normal of 664.5 mm between 1 June and 16 September. Hyderabad, with a 21% deficit, may also see improvement. However, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds pose risks to isolated areas, particularly from 17 to 20 September. The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall at isolated locations on 21 and 22 September, which could lead to localised flooding and disruptions.
