Impact & Risks

The drought conditions are severely impacting agriculture, water resources, and livelihoods in the affected states. Rainfed agricultural regions are particularly vulnerable, as the rainfall deficit coincided with critical sowing periods. Farmers are facing reduced soil moisture, lower groundwater levels, and potential crop failures. The drought also poses risks to drinking water availability and could lead to socio-economic challenges, including employment losses and reduced agricultural output. Ecosystems in the affected regions may also suffer from reduced water availability, leading to stunted plant growth and declining biodiversity.
