IN · Published Oct 21, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala until 27 October 2026 due to a low-pressure area over the southwest Arabian Sea and another forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
• An orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts, indicating very heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm within 24 hours.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall is likely to cause waterlogging, traffic disruptions, tree falls, and damage to power infrastructure and kutcha houses. Landslides and mudslides are possible in vulnerable areas, and standing crops and vegetables may suffer damage. Lightning poses a risk to people and animals in open areas. Residents in affected districts are advised to remain cautious and prepared for potential hazards.
