• The Tamil Nadu Agriculture Department has released updated data on reservoir storage levels across the state as of 4th November
• Key reservoirs such as Mettur, Krishna Raja Sagar, and Kabini are showing varying levels of water storage. For instance, Mettur Reservoir is currently at 55.95 feet with a storage of 21,763 M.Cft., while Krishna Raja Sagar is at 103.5 feet with 25,680 M.Cft. of water. Inflows and outflows also vary significantly across reservoirs, reflecting the ongoing water management efforts.

Impact & Risks

The mixed storage levels in Tamil Nadu's reservoirs could have diverse impacts on agriculture, drinking water supply, and hydroelectric power generation. Reservoirs with lower levels, such as Amaravathi and Vaigai, may face challenges in meeting water demands. Conversely, reservoirs with higher levels, like Krishna Raja Sagar, may provide some relief. The situation underscores the importance of efficient water management to address regional disparities.
