• Three days of continuous rainfall and hailstorms between 6th and 10th October 2026 have caused significant damage to agricultural land across Uttarakhand.
• The state agriculture department reported that disasters during the kharif season have affected 8,372 hectares of farmland.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and hailstorms have led to substantial crop losses, particularly in the Terai region of Uttarakhand. Farmers in districts such as Almora, Champawat, and Nainital are facing severe impacts, with damage to paddy, sugarcane, and horticultural crops. In Haridwar, vegetable crops across five hectares were also affected, along with damage to polyhouses and fallen trees. The losses are expected to impact the livelihoods of farmers and the local agricultural economy, especially as the damage occurred close to the harvest season.
