When charged raindrops land on surfaces, they can electrically punch through insulating coatings, such as Teflon. This process is different from traditional corrosion caused by salts and acids in rainwater. The study demonstrated that even chemically resistant coatings can be compromised by the electrical charge carried by raindrops.
