The retreat of glaciers in Uttarakhand poses a serious threat to the region's water security and ecological balance. Communities dependent on glacial meltwater for drinking, irrigation, and hydropower generation are at risk of facing water shortages. Additionally, the accelerated melting increases the likelihood of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), which can cause catastrophic damage to downstream areas.
