• The Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first disaster response force in India to receive the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification. This certification, awarded on 8th October 2026, recognises the SDRF's operational efficiency, discipline, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The certification process included a second audit conducted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the SDRF Battalion Headquarters in Jolly Grant from 23rd to 25th September
• The audit assessed various aspects such as administrative systems, training, resource management, and compliance with SOPs. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lauded the SDRF for its commitment to quality and operational excellence in disaster management.

Impact & Risks

The ISO certification is expected to enhance the SDRF's ability to respond to disasters in Uttarakhand, a state highly prone to natural calamities such as earthquakes, landslides, extreme rainfall, cloudbursts, floods, and avalanches. With over 40 teams on standby 24/7, the certification will help the force improve its preparedness, resource utilisation, and operational procedures. This development is crucial for a region that frequently faces severe weather events and other emergencies, ensuring better safety and quicker response times for residents and visitors.
