• Cyclone Arnab has brought significant weather changes to Uttar Pradesh, including heavy rainfall, fog, and a sharp drop in temperatures.
• On Sunday night, Varanasi experienced heavy rain, while fog blanketed over 10 districts, including Lucknow, Saharanpur, Shamli, Baghpat, and Muzaffarnagar, reducing visibility to just 50 metres.

Impact & Risks

The weather changes have disrupted daily life, with reduced visibility affecting transportation and heavy rains causing waterlogging in low-lying areas. Farmers in rural areas, particularly in Purvanchal, have reported damage to harvested paddy crops due to waterlogging. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has directed district magistrates to assess crop damage and ensure immediate compensation for affected farmers. The weather conditions may also impact the sowing and irrigation of rabi crops, with farmers advised to manage drainage and avoid unnecessary irrigation.
