IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Warning for Eastern and Central India
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its All India Weather Forecast Bulletin, highlighting the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states due to a well-marked low-pressure area.
• This system is currently situated over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and north Odisha coasts.
Impact & Risks
The forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, localised flooding, and disruptions to road transport in affected regions. Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand are expected to experience intense rainfall on 30 and 31 August, which could impact local rivers and streams. Odisha is likely to face the most severe conditions, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall predicted on 30 and 31 August, potentially causing significant disruptions and hazards in the region.
